QUITRALCO

Quitralco

Quitralco is a fjord in Chile's XI Region of Aysén. The fjord is a glacial basin surrounded by mountains. Due to the dense vegetation, the area has hardly been explored. The water has a relatively low salinity level, thanks to the amount of fresh water entering the sea from the surrounding mountainsides.

There is a large variety of birdlife present, plus dolphins, seals and sea lions. The Chilean Pudu (small deer) can also be seen with a bit of luck. Puma mountain lions appear from time to time.

The fjord was declared National Monument and Wildlife Sanctuary by DE 600 in 1996, because of its amazing scenery, wildlife and a huge amount of thermal hot springs of volcanic origin. Therefore its natural beauty is now protected
